With over 2.9 billion users, Facebook is one of the most visited websites in the country. The average user clocks approximately 33 minutes on the site per visit, and it is estimated that over 70% of internet users in America use Facebook on a regular basis. With so many users spending so much time online, Facebook presents tremendous marketing potential you cannot afford to ignore. Let’s consider a few basic methods of maximizing the impact of your dental practice’s Facebook account.
First things first — set up a Facebook Business Page and fill out all business information (e.g. physical location, contact info, services, etc.). Upload a professional profile picture (we recommend a clear logo image) and an appealing cover photo image. Use a picture of your team (people love to see happy, smiling faces), or an interior or exterior shot of your facility. Give your potential clients an preview into what they’ll see or experience when they show up for an appointment.
Once your Page is set up, start posting! Facebook content can consist of office announcements (“We’re closed Monday for a holiday”), any special offers your followers might want to know about, or updates on community events your dental practice participates in. At the very least — and we cannot overstate this — post pictures of your team and staff members (think, candid photos or staff appreciation moments). Trust us when we say that your followers want to see the people behind the service you provide. (For more content ideas, see Promoting Your Dental Practice on Facebook (Part 2).)
Posting frequently will help increase Page Likes. Encourage your staff to Like your Facebook Page, and to remind patients do likewise.
Make sure your website links to your Facebook Page (and to all your dental practice social accounts, for that matter). Also include your Facebook URL on business assets like print ads, flyers, letterhead, and emails signatures.
Place signs in your office reminding your patients that your practice is on Facebook. If you offer discounts or promotions, consider giving something to patients who check in to your office on Facebook.
Implementing these strategies will help you begin to use Facebook effectively to market your dental practice, but plan to dedicate time each month to generating fresh content.
